Finnish Top Tone Wood

Very rewarding day!

Today I made a domestic trip to a Finnish tone wood dealer with two of my Violin making friends. For a long time I have wondered why we buy expensive spruce tone wood from Europe, when we are surrounded by spruce forest. It seems that I was right.

The wood has been seasoned in an unheated warehouse from 1995 - 1998

MC% 15 - 17 %
Speed of sound ~5700 - 5900 m/s

The wood is magnificent! I regret I didn't buy more
Together we bought tops for 40 violins
